Step By Step – How To Cut A Pineapple

Let’s dive into the 9 steps on how to cut a pineapple; from selecting to slicing!

1.     Start with a freshly washed or thoroughly rinsed ripe pineapple. You’ll know it’s ripe when the skin is bright yellowy-orange and you can smell the sweet scent from even a couple of feet away.

2.     Gather your equipment. I recommend a good serrated knife, a wooden cutting board, a bowl for placing the cut fruit, and a paper towel for holding the rough green leafy top while cutting (optional).

3.     Next, slice off the bottom and green top from the pineapple (Save this if you want to take a stab at growing your own pineapple plant. Yes – you CAN grow one from the tops! A fun experiment with little ones or just for yourself).

4.     After you have sliced it so that it has a smooth bottom and top surface, stand the pineapple upright on the flat surface and begin trimming off the tough orange skin slice by slice. Rotate the pineapple as you go. Try not to cut too deeply so as to avoid losing more fruit than is necessary.

5.     Take your trimmed fruit, and placing it upright, slice straight down the middle from top to bottom, cutting it in half.

6.     Then, take one half and slice it in half again, length-wise.

7.     Note the core in the center of the pineapple that is usually too tough and fibrous to consume. This will have to be sliced off of each quarter (You can save the core and steep it in a green or white tea for a delicious fruity twist, or you can add it to your compost pile!)

8.     Once you have the quartered pineapple with the core sliced off, chop the pineapple to your desired size.

9.     Enjoy 😊

There you have it! Pineapple is perfect for summertime grilling, mixed drinks, popsicles, salsas, cottage cheese bowls, you name it! I hope this has given you the confidence to grab that pineapple the next time you’re at the supermarket!

May God bless you and those you love!
